Two reasons to invest in fencing for your crop farm
If you own a crop farm, it is worth purchasing fencing supplies and fitting a fence around the perimeter of your farmland. Continue reading to find out why.
To prevent people from walking on the property and damaging your crops
If your farm is located in a scenic countryside area, there will probably be a steady stream of walking enthusiasts passing by your farmland during periods of good weather. If your farmland is not protected by fences, these people could potentially end up damaging the crops that you grow on your farm.
Without a visible barrier, people might attempt to walk across your crop fields. As they do this, they may step on and damage the stems and leaves of the vegetables you have planted in these areas. This type of damage could result in the plants dying or being more susceptible to disease (as fungi and bacteria could get into the plant via the opening in the broken stem or leaf and then create a systemic infection). If this happens regularly, it could lower your crop yields significantly and affect the financial stability of your farming business.
Fortunately, you can stop this crop damage from occurring by investing in well-made fencing supplies and fitting a fence around the edges of your fields. This should prevent people who are passing by your farm from walking across your fields and potentially destroying your valuable crops.
To reduce the number of crops that are stolen
It is an unfortunate fact that many crop farmers find that at least some of their crops end up being stolen each year. Some thieves creep onto the crop fields and pick the vegetables and fruits out of the ground or off the plant, whilst others wait until the crops have been harvested and then sneak into the storage areas on the farms and steal the crops that they want.
Whilst the occasional theft of, for example, a few potatoes or carrots is unlikely to have a hugely detrimental impact on your farming business, having large amounts of your crops stolen on a regular basis could potentially lead to the closure of your enterprise.
In this situation, erecting fencing around your farmland which is tall (and therefore difficult to climb) and robust (so that thieves cannot use force to break the fence panels open) should help to drastically reduce the number of crop thefts that you experience.
